Exchange Web Services (EWS) Retirement
Target Audience
SaaS and On-Prem ResourceXpress customers who integrate with Microsoft Exchange Online (O365, M365) via Exchange Web Services (EWS).
Summary
Microsoft will start blocking requests to Exchange Web Services (EWS) in Exchange Online from Oct-1 2026.
Please see this article for further information.
ResourceXpress Specific Summary
If you are a ResourceXpress customer and you integrate with Exchange resource mailboxes hosted in Exchange Online, it is strongly recommended to check your integration configuration as soon as possible. If you are still using the legacy EWS web service integration on or after Oct-1 2026 your bookings will no longer synchronise.
If you have already migrated your integration to Microsoft Graph API, you can disregard this announcement.
How do I check if I'm using EWS or Graph?
ResourceXpress version 202x.x
In the web portal, navigate to Administration Settings – System Settings – Resource Server (tab). If you are using a hybrid booking system licence, ensure that the Booking System value is set to Exchange.
Check the Server Host Name value.
If the value is set to https://graph.microsoft.com/v1.0 then you are already using Graph API and you do not need to take further action.
If the value is set to https://outlook.office365.com/EWS/Exchange.asmx then you are still using EWS and must take action.
Ensure you check all areas where this value can be configured including Location Settings and resource specific settings if applicable.
ResourceXpress versions 3.x and 4.x
Graph API is not supported in these versions of ResourceXpress. If you integrate to Exchange Online, you will be using EWS and must take action.
I am still using EWS, what do I need to do?
Ultimately, you must update your integration and use Graph API instead. Achieving this depends on which ResourceXpress version you are currently running.
v3.x and 4.x
As already mentioned, these versions of ResourceXpress do not support the use of Graph API. An upgrade to a later version will be required.
Please be aware that an upgrade to our latest major version will involve application downtime, and there are different prerequisites for on-prem customers relating to the web server host operating system and database type. Furthermore, not all legacy hardware will be supported.
If you require an upgrade, we strongly advise you reach out to our support team as soon as possible to discuss your options.
V202x.x
Graph API has been fully supported since ResourceXpress v2021.6. If you are running an earlier version you will need to carry out an in-place upgrade of the server application.
If you are running v2021.6 or later, you can update your integration without a software upgrade. Please see our guide for configuring Graph API here.
RX SaaS Customers
We are actively monitoring outgoing calls from our application servers to EWS. We will contact any impacted customers and partners shortly.
Next Steps
Please follow the guidance above as soon as possible to check your usage of EWS and take the appropriate action. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to our support team.
